Funding Request: $2,824.51 CAD
Critical Need: CNKME0124
Martin and his two younger siblings grew up with their father, David. David does casual jobs to afford his children’s daily needs, school fees, and to cover rent. The Meru staff saw how David struggled, and enrolled Martin and his siblings into the sponsorship program. Now 22, Martin’s sponsor has supported him all the way to university.
During the second year of his degree, Martin started to struggle – financially and mentally. His family, lecturers, and site staff noticed a change in his behavior and academic performance. The site staff took him to the hospital, and he was diagnosed with a substance use disorder.
Martin needs professional support to recover and cannot safely live at home. The Meru site has found a suitable centre for guidance and counselling. But a six-month treatment will come at a private expense of $2,824.51 CAD, which is far outside David’s humble means.
The Meru site is therefore requesting to support Martin’s mental health recovery, so that he can heal and return to his university life.
Please note that any donations that exceed the request will be used to fund other critical need emergencies that may arise.
