Critical Need:  CNIKE0324

Huligemma has been suffering from uterine bleeding for the past four months. She consulted a doctor, and he recommended that she undergo surgery.

Micheal's medical, dialysis, Nandom, Ghana

Huligemma is a 28-year-old mother of two, living with her children and husband near our Kerala site in India. She knew she couldn’t afford the medical bills that abdominal surgery would generate, so she did not act on his advice.

But the longer she went without treatment, the weaker and sicker she felt. At last, in early November 2023, she went for the surgery. She was discharged after three days in good health. As she recovers, her doctors warned her not to do physical work.

As she’d feared, the hospitalization and surgery incurred bills of $1,172.17 CAD.  Huligemma is the sole breadwinner with the income she earns from seasonal, intermittent labour jobs. During long gaps in employment, she must care for her son who has a developmental disability. Their daughter Priyanka’s Chalice sponsor is an enormous support.

The Kerala site staff have therefore requested to repay the bills, which encompass her lab testing, X-ray, medicine, operation and other charges.
